Bank statement converter

Convert PDF bank and card statements to Excel, CSV, OFX or QIF — with every balance checked.

Bank statement converter turns the transaction tables in PDF bank and credit card statements into a clean spreadsheet: one row per transaction, with the date, description, money out, money in and balance. Download it as Excel or CSV, or as OFX or QIF to import into QuickBooks, Xero, Quicken and other accounting software. Every row is checked against the running balance printed on the statement, so a misread number is highlighted instead of slipping through, and you can correct any cell before you download. Scanned statements work too.

How to convert a bank statement to Excel

  1. 1

Select one or more PDF bank or credit card statements.

  2. 2

Check the transactions: rows that don’t add up to the printed balance are highlighted, and you can click any cell to fix it.

  3. 3

Choose Excel, CSV, OFX or QIF and download the file.

Questions and answers

Which banks does it work with?

It reads the layout of the statement rather than relying on a list of banks, so it works with most banks and card issuers worldwide — different column names, date styles like 31/01/2024, 01/31 or 31 Jan, and number styles like 1,234.56 or 1.234,56.

How do I know the numbers are right?

Each row is checked against the running balance printed on the statement: the previous balance plus money in minus money out must equal the new balance. Rows that don’t add up are highlighted in the preview and in the Excel file, so you can compare them with the PDF and correct them.

Can I import the result into QuickBooks or Xero?

Yes. Download OFX to import into QuickBooks, Xero, Quicken, Wave, Sage and most other accounting software, or CSV if your software asks for a spreadsheet. QIF is there for Quicken and older apps.

Does it work with scanned statements?

Yes. If a statement is a scan or a photo, recognize the text first with the button that appears, then check the highlighted rows carefully — scans are harder to read than digital PDFs.

Can I convert several statements at once?

Yes. Add as many statements as you like — for example a year of monthly statements — and they’re combined into one file, with a column saying which statement each row came from and a summary sheet.

What about password-protected statements?

Remove the password with Unlock PDF first (you need to know the password), then convert the unlocked file.

Is PDFfinch free?

Yes. Every tool is free to use, with no account, no email and no watermark added to your files.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. PDFfinch works in any modern browser on Windows, Mac, Linux, iPhone and Android. There is nothing to install.
